Chronicles of a Late-Blooming Child Prodigy

I'm an unrelenting aficionado of Chess, Toastmasters and acoustic music (Celtic and Bluegrass--Turquoisegrass?). Audio and Video Blogging gives my visitors a chance to hear and see my triumvirate of interests in action. Cheers! --GT

Location: Olympia, Washington, United States

My recurring illusions of grandeur: (1) winning a state-level chess tournament, (2) winning the World Championship of Public Speaking, and (3) playing Flight of the Bumblebee on the guitar at the Annual Flatpicking Championship in Winfield, Kansas. Until then, I'll relish all three pursuits with the enthusiasm and fearlessness of a late-blooming child prodigy. :)

Home in Olympia, WA

I'm home! Time to change the strings on the acoustic arsenal. Got a lot of pickin' and fiddlin' to catch up on...

I'm glad you're home, hombre! I have many friends who are in that massive kitty litter box and as many who have come home. Perhaps knowing me has a positive effect. So far, none of them have departed our mortal company. Only one has been injured, but even he still has all of his parts. May not see much out of one eye and may limp for many years but he's a happy man.

My heart aches for every comrade in arms who has suffered, but stories such as you and some others have told, help to know that there is a silver lining to this cloud as well. So much good and a few worthless knucklehead oxygen-thieves. Much material for mental mastication.

In one of your posts you spoke of the reason for being in Iraq - bringing peace to the Iraqi people. I was reminded of a lovely song I heard, performed by the wife of a guy whom I knew at GBS many moons ago. They were invited to perform Christmas concerts for the troops in Kosovo - Christmas of 2003. Her brother (an army sergeant stationed in Kosovo at the time) wrote this song and she performed it there. You can listen to it at:

The link is under the Christmas in Kosovo DVD section. Check it out.

Peace be with you!
